If that's the case and they didn't provide the key or it doesn't appear to work, then I would suggest contacting Nik.If you obtained the product some other way, then I'm afraid you are SOL.As you may know NIK (now owned by Google) are not selling the old versions that run with Microsoft XP and CS3 so I was obliged to get the product through ebay BUT it was totally sealed and original. When I opened the CD there were two areas - one for the key and one for the programme. The key area would not open (using CS3) so Eventually I used the trial period version - which worked perfectly ( for the limited period) - but the 'key' area still would not open.So the seller, at his suggestion - sent me the Pro I version ( which they say is better with OS XP and CS3)that had the key written on the CD label and all went OK and worked perfectly as a plugin to CS3I will be sending him back the first CD as I think it was just faulty. And we are all happy bunnies!! HOWEVER if someone has interesting comments I would be pleased to read them. We always learn.

If you contact Google directly they may send you for free their entire Nik suite - ColorEfex, etc. Along with SilverEfex. When they first bought Nik, they sent out a one-time offer to all Nik customers (I was one) give a free upgrade to the entire suite. I installed it on my computer at one of my homes.

When I came to the other, I couldn't find the original installation files they gave me at that time, so I contacted Google and they were very helpful.Try contacting them at this email address: supportus@niksoftware.com. Thanks Brick - My problem was that I am an 'XP' addict and apart from the cost - have no desire or reason to change. So have to work with programmes that support XP and CS3 sonsequently the new Nik stuff is no good for me and I just need simple stuff and these guys (all of them) need to make money so keep upgrading everything and that costs!!!!! Such is 2014 life!!

Sad but eventually we all get dragged kicking and screaming where Microsoft or Apple or Google decide to yank us.
